Two children walk up the steps to Chancery Lane from Main Street, circa 1946. Th sign “table for ladies” invites ladies to dine without the necessity of a gentleman escort. On the right is the Capitol Restaurant where the Annapolis Camera Club held monthly meetings.

“Stokes Grocery store is on the left. This is where you would go in, sit on a stool, and order your groceries. The clerk would use a ‘grabber’ to reach the items on the upper shelves.” – Margaret Emery Clapp. Circa 1948
