A lapstrake-built boat, also known as a clinker-built boat, is a method of boat building where the edges of hull planks overlap. This technique was developed by the Nordics and was a trademark of Nordic navigation throughout the Middle Ages. The Europeans eventually brought lapstrake construction to the New World and historians claim that approximately 2,000 lapstrake-built boats were used to fight the French and Indian Wars.
Today lapstrake construction remains a popular boat building method.
