Shown here are three typical bay boats. At the right is the skipjack Ester W. which was built in 1914. The skipjack is usually a small vessel with a pronounced rake to the mast, a large jib, a triangular mainsail, and a low freeboard. In the center is the schooner Mattie F. Dean, built-in 1884 at Madison, Maryland. It was a famous Bay-built schooner and the last of its type to see service on the Chesapeake Bay. At the left is the schooner Anna and Helen, built-in 1911. The boats are working the oyster beds in the Chesapeake Bay, off Matapeake. Circa 1950
