BALTIMORE’S 50-ACRE ‘SUPERMARKET’, May 11, 1958: James Upton, the Department of Agriculture market news reporter at the yards, chalks up the receipts of livestock in other cities for the information of both buyers and sellers. The board is kept up to date all day long. The commission fee on sales of hogs is 40 cents a head. It is 30 cents on sheep, 50 cents on calves, and $1.45 on cattle.
